Algerian rhythm repertoire is very rich : binary, ternary, odd rhythms…
This workshop will focus on one of them: «Wahrani ». Typical and very popular rhythm from western Algeria, « Wahrani » means litteraly from Oran. This original Bedouin rhythm was used in the city of Oran in a light song repertory called «Ray». We will work on the four main patterns (darbouka, bendir, key, riq) of this very «groovy» rhythm.
North African music remains not well-known by the public and does not benefit the precise lighting it deserves. Maghreb music is therefore the fruit of different sensibilities. It mixes Berber, African, Oriental, Ottoman and Western influences. It's divided into several levels of repertoires: the profane and the sacred, the learned and the popular.
